Who’s Sitting on Your Front Porch

#346

There’s a story about Elon Musk’s early days — back when he wasn’t a billionaire, just a guy sleeping on the floor of a rented house in Palo Alto with a few friends who believed in impossible things.

Every person in that house went on to build something world-changing. Not because they were smarter than everyone else, but because of proximity — they surrounded themselves with people who refused to think small.

It’s not that different from faith.

Scripture reminds us that “Iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Who you let into your circle determines the shape of your future.

You can’t chase God-sized dreams surrounded by people who only see the impossible.

For now, the people around you might just be fun — loud, easy to be with, always down for the moment. But when the noise fades and the night gets quiet, ask yourself:

  • Do they lift you toward purpose or pull you away from it?
  • Do they challenge your faith or feed your doubt?
  • Do they speak life when you’re running on empty?

God is intentional about the company we keep.

Sometimes He removes people not because they were bad, but because they couldn’t go where He’s taking you next. And sometimes He brings the right people at the exact moment you’d given up on finding them — people who don’t just believe in you, but believe with you.

Someday, you’ll find yourself on a front porch — weathered wood, the slow hum of crickets, a peace you didn’t know you’d been chasing.

And when you look around, the people sitting beside you will tell the story of your life.

So look at who’s in your house now.

The ones helping you build. The ones who stay when it’s hard. The ones who see something divine in your chaos.

Because if the people around you are chasing light, it’s only a matter of time before you start glowing too.
